Bater is located 800 m above sea level at about 65 km from Beirut.

An old hiking trail links Bater to the village of Ammatour and to the Marj Bisri, where the so called «Cleopatra Castle» is located. An old stone bridge, a water mill, and an old olive press are among the historical monuments in Bater.
